These pages are written for commissioners of long term conditions, particularly those who may not have a detailed knowledge of respiratory disease, and also service providers who wish to understand more about the commissioning process. The IMPRESS documents that they introduce include sufficient detail to commission a respiratory service from a low knowledge base, but also include "stretch" elements for those commissioners that want more.


February 2011 

NHS London has included two CQUINs on its pick-list for local negotation.  One incentivising the use of a CLARHC  designed COPD  Discharge Bundle and the other incentivising stop smoking support for all smokers in a hospital bed for more than a day.   Their website includes the background thinking as well as the CQUINs themselves.


November 2010: new support for GP commissioners:

NHS Alliance and Humana commissioning academy

National Association of Primary Care (NAPC) and KPMG GP Commissioning Academy 


October 2010 - The Strategic Commissioning Development Unit (SCDU) of the Department of Health, England, has produced a commissioning pack on cardiac rehabilitation. This, plus definitions such as "case for change", and links to procurement templates are available here.  This unit will be producing a COPD commissioning pack in 2011.
